When it comes to determining what the biggest bar of chocolate is, we kick off our exploration by traveling back in time to October 7, 2011. We find ourselves in Alfreton, Derbyshire in the UK where Thorntons plc (UK) created the largest bar of chocolate in terms of weight. It came to a whopping 12,770 lb 4.48 oz. Wondering about how it was measured in terms of size? Well, this chocolate bar came in at 13 ft 1.48 in x 13 ft 1.48 in x 1 ft 1.78 in. As for the ingredients, these included sugar, dried whole milk powder, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, butter oil, and emulsifier.
The biggest chocolate by area
Another record when it comes to a huge chocolate bar is the one created by chocolate atelier Frits van Noppen in Rotterdam in the Netherlands in February 2020. Celebrating their 20th anniversary, producing this bar took a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, the build up of this largest chocolate bar by area took three days. In total, there were 1.620 elements that the chocolate bar was made from and it came in at a weight of 13.079 kgs. But the whopper here is that this ultra large chocolate bar came in at an area of 383.24 sqm. Another showstopper here was that the profit of the attempt went to the international charity Mercy Ships.
The largest box of chocolates
If you thought that that’s where the chocolate world records come to an end, you’d be wrong. Why? Because there’s also a world record for the largest box of chocolates. This time, it was created by confectionary company Russell Stover Candies and it came in weighting at over 5,000 pounds! In terms of size, it measures at 30 feet and 4.5 inches wide by 15 feet 5 inches tall. Despite its massive size, the Guinness World Records title for the “Largest Box of Chocolates” is actually based on the total weight of the chocolate inside. That’s why the Russell Stover team loaded 5,000 pounds of large novelty chocolates (each weighing from 11 to 38 pounds) in the box. This new record was achieved on April 17 to celebrate the confectioner’s 100th anniversary in Kansas City.
The longest line of chocolate bars
Travelling away from the US and heading to Mumbai in India on September 5, 2022 we have Candyman Fantastik Choco Bar XL, ITC Ltd., Foods Business Division (India). Commemorating Teacher’s Day in India, this was the world record for the longest line of chocolate bars at 5,130.

- Most expensive dessert: we find ourselves in New York City on November 7, 2007 when Serendipity 3 restaurant added the Frrrozen Haute Chocolate, costing $25,000 to its menu. This luxury item was created in partnership with a jeweler in New York. This special sundae was created using a fine blend of 28 cocoas, including 14 of the world’s most expensive. It was decorated with 0.17 oz of edible 23-carat gold and was served in a goblet lined with edible gold. The base of the goblet is an 18-carat gold bracelet with 1 carat of white diamonds. The dessert is eaten with a gold and diamond spoon, which can also be taken home.
- Largest chocolate truffle: Sweet Shoppe USA created this super-sized treat based on their most popular Milk Swiss Mint Truffle. It was done using massive amounts of chocolate and a large dome-shaped mold. It weighed in at 2,368 lb 8 oz.
- Earliest chocolate: American anthropologist John Henderson discovered traces of cacao in pottery fragments in 2007. These fragments date back to 1150 BCE in Honduras, indicating how far back in the history of chocolate such consumption goes. Also worth knowing is that the earliest chocolate drink recipe dates to 1631.
- Longest chocolate sculpture: we now head over to Belgium on November 19, 2012 when a 111-ft 8-in-long chocolate choo-choo was put on display at Brussels South railroad station. This chocolate train was crafted from Belcolade chocolate by master chocolatier Andrew Farrugia. It was part of Brussels Chocolate Week and a jazz band accompanied the event. What’s even more striking is that the keyboard player played on a grand piano that was also made from chocolate.
